The DOM supported housing facility began providing its services on October 21, 2004. The establishment of the organization (November 3, 2003) was initiated by the need to provide the actors with the background for their further development aimed at supporting their independence and self-reliance in the natural environment – at home, in the workplace as well as in other situations of social contact.
In order to achieve these goals, an individual approach and close cooperation with relatives, friends and the community was used from the beginning. The intention was to develop maximum independence of life in the natural environment. The individual development plans therefore took into account the specifics of the individual, which also defined the scope of the necessary assistance and supervision.
Despite our best efforts, after 18 years of operation, we were forced to close this facility down in 2021. This decision was not being made easily. Due to insufficient financial resources and lack of personnel, we unfortunately had no other choice.
Our many years of experience with the supported housing are the proof that facilities of this type are very much needed. We are therefore open to share our experience with anyone who decides to open similar facilities in the future.
